Saturday 29th August - Skeeby Leek club annual show
Skeeby leek club want to say a very big heartfelt thank you to everyone involved with our wonderful annual show on Saturday 29th August. It was a very successful event. Attended and enjoyed by visitors from near and far.
The Village hall housed the Best leeks and individual vegetable classes and it was obvious everyone in the leek club had worked very hard all year despite some trying weather!
Well done to all members of the leek club there were a lot of absolute beauties amongst the classes of leeks and vegetables. Thank you to everyone who attended the presentation evening. We had a lot of laughs and some tears too. There were some delicious cakes which gave our judges a very nice half hour tasting and deciding on the winners! Thank you to everyone who dropped off photos of the village for our photograph competition. It was a close call but there was a clear winner and some excellent images taken! With well dressed, unique, fun leeks and the most wonkiest veg seen in Skeeby! Also there were some absolute monsters amongst the heaviest potatoes! Also a big thank you to everyone who donated raffle prizes.
This year’s show is dedicated to a well loved member of our current leek club and a member of the original Skeeby leek club from years past, and life long resident of Skeeby,Neville Bowler. Very sadly Nev passed away Thursday morning. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. A kind gentleman with a twinkle in his eye and a great sense of humour. Nev cleared up with his leeks this year, getting Best pair and Best leek! Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
Thank you again to Skeeby Leek and Produce Club, The Travellers Rest – The Skeeby Community Pub Society Ltd, Skeeby Village Hall and all the volunteers on the day!
Here’s to another successful show and we all look forward to next years!
